The Food Chain

Rico There is almost nothing quite so awesome as scary beings eating themselves. This anthropomorphic ice cream eating ice cream, cartoon cow devouring slices of its own hindquarters concept is my new favorite Flickr pick me up.

Ah…Autophagia and Cut Me, Wicket Servant also tread into this tasty yet terrifying realm.

Doesn’t it always seem like it’s the chickens that are guilty of this? I can think of 3 times in my life when I have actually commented about a chicken EATING another chicken in an ad campaign or sign… Have you ever seen the X-Files about the chickens actually eating other chickens, and then this weird disease starts spreading and people live to be 110 or something because they are eating the chickens (that ate the chickens)? Fucked up.

I can’t find a picture online, and I keep meaning to snap one myself, but the picnic table and knife/fork/plate freeway signs for the the Donner (Party) Memorial Park always crack me up when I drive by.

  3. Chickens must not have any morals. You do see a lot of cute cartoon pigs used in BBQ ads, thought. Cows, not so much.

I got into a huge debate over the Donner Party at my last job. The only woman I was friends with just couldn’t get past the whole cannibalism thing (she said she would rather die, which I think is ridiculous) where I didn’t get the big deal with eating humans that are already dead. Sure, it’s gross but it’s not like you’re killing people for food.

I think the pig of Pig ‘N Pancake fame is eating pancakes with bacon on top…or it could be just syrup.

  5. I almost forgot about Pig ‘n Pancake. I think the two brown smudges are supposed to be maple syrup trails, but they do look suspiciously like bacon slices.

Hmm…I don’t know if you can insert pictures in comments. I can’t seem to do it, so here’s a link to the pig in question.

Rather starve than eat another human? I watched a documentary about that plane that crashed in Chile with the soccer team… The survivors ate the ones that died in the crash. The ones that survived said they went without eating for a long time, trying not to eat their friends, but that it was much more painful than they had imagined. I would eat just about anything before I would starve. I hope that if someone was alive and I was dead, they would eat me too (only if necessary of course… not just for fun).

No, these days, we’re killing people with food…

In the last year or so, the whole Donner Part dining experience has been contested. From what I understand, it might have been sensationalized; although at the end of the day, cannibalism is cannibalism.

I’m a big fan of recycling, so I would hope, in the right circumstances, that I could be turned into a casserole or something healthy should the need arise.

  10. I’d never given thought to how my flesh might be prepared. I would imagine under such dire circumstances that seasonings and accompaniments would be limited. My ribs might be a little fatty but they’d still probably grill up pretty well.
